Lyrics

Old habits die hard

Poison in my pleasure

I fell head first into your abyss

I shielded my eyes with my own 2 hands.

So I couldn't see you

Wouldn't feel how I felt

I shut down every emotion I thought I had

But nostalgia could jump start a failed romance.

Don't make me fall in love

Don’t make me fall in love

Don't make me fall in love with you

All over again and again.

Oh, the weapons you chose

Old love letters I wrote

You waved them back and forth in front of my red face

Saying how could this man not love me anymore

My voice on the page

Crumpled up in your fist

You fished them out of the trash just to throw ‘em right back

Oh baby, you’re impossible to ignore.

Like a polka needs a dot

Like a tick needs a tock

Like the fella that sits at the bar till the lights come on

There’s no stopping that sexual desire.

Love monster in a box

With you riding on top

You wear your heart on your sleeve

You’re so stubborn about me

There’s no stopping your passionate fire.

Lyrics

I watched her floating

In sepia meadows

I saw her get hands dirty

On the handle of a shovel

Spreading seeds in the muddy black earth

Feeding Mother Nature

In the raindrops and the cow manure.

She worshiped the land

Like the native Indians

She woke up with the sunrise

Just like her mom and dad did.

She brushed away the wayward wisps

Of stubborn German brown hair

Frozen like a statue

In an orchard built on hope and dares.

Cold rain

Black night

Slam the shutters tight

I feel the storm a comin’

In the flicker of a candlelight.

Her shadow’s dimmer now

I see the worry in her face

She smiled and softly asked me:

Why do you have such little faith?

She captured all the sunlight

In her raven black eyes

She rode upon the moonbeams

She shimmered in the night.

And I swore I saw her hidden wings

When she danced around the fog

In the darkest of the midnights

When she quieted the bullfrogs.

And she conquered all the circling winds

She whispered chants and spells

She raised her arms in thankfulness

For every breath she felt.

Cause her body's just a bag of bones

No different than this dirt

And one day she'd return to it

Unfortunately, when my head was turned.

Cold rain

Black night

Slam the shutters tight

I feel the storm a comin’

In the flicker of a candlelight.

Her shadow’s dimmer now

I see the worry in her face

She smiled and softly asked me:

Why do you have such little faith?

Now she counted on the stars

To be right where they’re supposed to be

She found the good in everything

That I refused to see.

She studied every weathered line

Every nuance on my face then

She said to me in quiet tones

You need to join the human race again.

And the Fall

Came and went so fast

Her paleness matched the snowflakes

She said you must not hold my hand.

December robbed her from my bed

I was left behind

I could not hold on to someone

Who was simply just a breath in time.
